error starting APLX linux v.5 beta

Postby paganini » Sat Sep 05, 2009 10:22 am

Hello!
I get this error message when I run "startaplx" command:
Code: Select all
xset:  bad font path element (#23), possible causes are:
Directory does not exist or has wrong permissions
    Directory missing fonts.dir
Incorrect font server address or syntax

plus a window message:
Unlicenced copy of APLX or missing serial number. Please reinstall the product

then the main APLX window appears (displaying Version 5.0.2) but remains unusable
I also noticed that the installer didn't add any Gnome menu/icon to launch it even if I typed 'Yes' during setup

I didn't remove APLX 1.1.9 before installing v5beta, could it be an issue? APLX v1.1 is installed under /usr/local/aplxpe and v5beta under /usr/local/aplxv5beta

Thanks

Thanks for the report.

It seems we made a mistake in configuring the Linux beta, so it only starts up if you've already got v4 installed. We've fixed that and uploaded a new copy of the installer.

However, you don't need to reinstall the whole thing. You can download the fixed version of the interpreter here:

http://www.microapl.co.uk/apl/aplxlinux

If you copy that to /usr/local/aplxv5beta/bin (overwriting the previous version of aplxlinux), it should start up OK even if you haven't got v4 installed. You'll need to be logged on as root to copy the file across.

(Don't worry about the 'bad font path' message - it shouldn't affect anything.)
